finalistbusawardsFinalists in the 2008 Westpac Hawke’s Bay Chamber of Commerce Business Awards represent an extremely high standard of business success for the region says the award’s chief judge Rick Cranswick.

Thirty nine businesses were announced as finalists last night at a function held at The Crown Hotel in Ahuriri.

Mr Cranswick, Chief Executive of accounting firm WHK Coffey Davidson, said all entries represented a high level of innovation, organisation and profitability among businesses in Hawke’s Bay.

“The strong standard of entries reflects the vibrancy of Hawke’s Bay’s economy, even in the current economic climate. I congratulate all those who were prepared to stand tall and be judged against their peers.

“Selecting finalists was a rigorous process and the judging panel held long discussions before making our selection. Already we know there are excellent finalists in all categories and every winner will be a top quality business.

“We are now looking forward to meeting the business owners over the coming weeks”.

New categories introduced for 2008 awards include Excellence in Sustainable Business and a Business Transformation Award.

Fellow judges are Phil Pollett (Managing Director, Goodtime Foods Ltd), Steve Alexander and Chris Guillemot (WHK Coffey Davidson Principals) Glenice Hibbard (Franchise Manager - Smart Franchising (NZ) Limited) and Amada Sye (Director Number 9 Marketing and Design)

Chamber Chief Executive Murray Douglas said finalists will now go through further scrutiny from the judging panel and the Chamber wishes them all good fortune for the next stage in the assessment process.

Winners of each category along with the Hawke’s Bay Today Business of the Year and the Hawke’s Bay Chamber of Commerce/Employer Manufacturers Business Person of the Year will be announced at the Business Awards gala dinner at the Pettigrew.Green Arena in Taradale on Thursday November 6th.
