Paint and Paint Packaging

3R Group has signed an agreement with Dulux to provide a Paint and Paint Packaging Recovery programme to all Dulux Trade Centre stores.

The programme allows tradesmen to return any architectural and decorative paint coatings to Dulux’s 17 Trade Centre stores throughout the country.  Dulux paints will be accepted free of charge, while other brands’ paints will incur a $0.25 per litre charge based on the can size.

“We are delighted that Dulux have decided to implement this product stewardship programme,” says Graeme Norton, director of 3R Group.  “We’ve been working with them for some time now and it’s great to get a programme up and running which complements the PaintWise programme already in place with Resene.

“3R will continue to work closely with Dulux over the coming year and we hope to bring this programme to commercial scale by adding their  retail customers in the near future.”

Paint recovered through the Dulux programme will go to community groups for graffiti abatement, as well as into other innovative end uses for waste paint such as PaintCrete and GlassCrete.

“Volunteer product stewardship programmes like this and Resene PaintWise are an excellent way for manufacturers to take responsibility for managing the environmental impacts of products through their lifecycle.

“It’s a ‘cradle to cradle’ methodology which shows a proactive and sustainable response to waste minimisation.  It also reflects the growing demand for environmental responsibility amongst consumers, businesses and government alike.”
