What happens to the plastic collected by Gardenwise?
It is to be processed right here in New Zealand. The hard plastic will be shredded into small pieces and then cleaned and reprocessed. The processed plastic will then be made into a range of end use products. At the moment recycling of contaminated plastic bags and films within New Zealand is difficult to do sustainably and in a fully compliant manner and we are working with a recycling company to develop this solution.
What happens when I take my full bag to a garden centre?
You should approach the sales counter, and the attendant will either take the bag from you or will direct you to a collection bin into which you can place the full bag. Gardenwise will have arrangements in place with the garden centre to clear the contents of the bins on a regular basis.
Can my full bags be rejected?
Yes. It is important that we maintain some quality control and ask for your help with this. If you have not prepared the plastic in line with the instructions on the bag then you will be asked to take the bag away and prepare the plastic accordingly.
